RE: [GreenYes] Construction Material Recycling
Check out Recycle Ann Arbor's (RAA) ReUse Center. Their mission is to
divert used building materials, amongst other reusable items from the
waste stream. They resell all the materials for pennies on the dollar to
anyone, not just affordable housing groups. But a large portion of the
products sold go to low-income homeowners due to the cheap cost,
allowing them to improve the value of their homes that they would
otherwise be unable to afford.

RAA is a non-profit, and they run the ReUse Center solely on the sale of
materials, it is not subsidized by any grant funding or city or state
contracts. They are currently diverting approximately 2,000 tons a year
of materials away from the landfills at no cost to the municipality.

Subject: [GreenYes] Construction Material Recycling

Hello All -

Does anyone know of a city that operates a program/facility that accepts
construction/building material and resells it or donates it for the
purposes
affordable housing?

I understand that Habitat for Humanity runs "Re-Stores" that accept
reusable household materials and sells them, however, we are in an area
that
doesn't have a low cost builder (ala H4H) in it.

The purpose of establishing a program like this would be twofold, 1)
help
facilitate affordable housing projects 2) divert C&D material that would
otherwise goto a landfill.

If anyone would have any contacts in cities that participate in a
program
like this, please let me know.

Thanks,

John Buri
