RE: [GreenYes] Income/Tax Value vs Generation rates

Back in 1972, the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, with support from the
National Science Foundation, did a study of residential waste generation in
7 states (Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee
and Wisconsin), using some demographic data such as of number of people per
household; single family vs apartment or duplex; farm, suburb or city;
environmental concern; and, as an indicator of affluence, with or without
air conditioning. Data are given by type of material as well as total
quantity, including newspapers, all paper, clear glass, colored glass,
plastics, organics, metal and miscellaneous.
I don't know how to get a copy of the report from the Oak Ridge National
Laboratory, but a 9 page article was published in the April 1976 issue of
Waste Age, "Domestic Solid Waste and Household Characteristics", Charles R.
Rhyner, pages 29-50. I would be glad to either mail or fax copies to anyone
who is interested.
