JOB TITLE: Solid Waste Manager
City of Newton, MA, Department of Public Works, Division of
Environmental Affairs
Salary: $56,744 - $62,987
Responsibilities: Manage solid waste programs for the City including
trash, recycling, yard waste, household hazardous waste, re-use,
source reduction and composting. Administer daily operations of solid
waste contracts, ensure ordinance and policy compliance, conduct
training and outreach to the public and City employees, and manage fee-
based services. Assists in preparing proposals, requests for
proposals, contracts. Develops and markets new programs and makes
recommendations to enhance existing programs. Oversees the Resource
Recovery Center. Responsible for maintaining division data, data
analysis and recommendations to reduce costs, increase revenue and
instill efficiencies. Responds to residents concerns. Interfaces
regularly with the Executive Department, Customer Service and other
departments, communities, state and federal agencies. Participates in
media relations. Will act as advisory to the Solid Waste Commission.
Assists the Director in other division activities as required.
Qualifications: Associates or Bachelors degree in Environmental
Sciences, public administration or management. A minimum of 5 years of
experience related to public works and/or environmental concerns such
as solid waste or recycling. Computer proficiency in Microsoft
(particularly Excel and Word) required as are excellent written and
oral skills.
