Subject: Action Alert for Recyclers -- Call Senate Finance Now
NRC ACTION ALERT -- PLEASE CALL SENATE FINANCE COMMITTEE NOW
The National Recycling Coalition urges all of its members and other
recycling professionals and advocates to call the Senate Finance Committee
today. We have an exciting opportunity today to get a recycling tax credit
inserted in the national energy bill before Congress. To make this happen,
the Senate Finance Committee needs to hear from people around the nation
today, Thursday, June 16, 2005.
See the list of Committee Members and how to contact them here:
http://finance.senate.gov/sitepages/committee.htm
WHAT'S HAPPENING
The "Recycling Investment Saves Energy (RISE) Act" will create jobs,
increase productivity, and conserve energy by establishing a targeted tax
credit for equipment used in processing and sorting of recyclable
materials. This bill will also clarify the tax code to allow the issuance
of tax-exempt bonds to finance solid waste disposal facilities regardless
of waste value. Additionally, this bill will ensure that states and local
governments have a wide array of financial tools available to support
recycling.
WHO SUPPORTS IT
RISE is supported by a broad variety of organizations, including the
National Recycling Coalition, the National League of Cities, the Solid
Waste Association of North America, the Sierra Club, and leading
corporations like Novelis (formerly Alcan), Waste Management, Tomra of
North America, and Envision Plastics.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Call the offices of members of the Senate Finance Committee immediately
and ask them to support the Recycling Investment Saves Energy (RISE) Act
before the Committee today. Calls are better than email and letters;
however, we encourage you to follow-up a call with a letter or email.
