RE: [greenyes] Badger Paper Closes - SUPPORT FOR CERTIFIED PCF NEEDED!

Oops, Archie forgot to mention GreenLine (one of his Chlorine Free Products
Association members :) ) as a source for PCF and recycled papers.

Good News! Our best selling copy paper and best selling item is New Life
which is 100% post consumer and certified PCF by CFPA. (We also carry many
other papers that are processed without chlorine.)

We are working on updating our website, but you can find most products at
www.greenlinepaper.com or contact us for a catalog at
stevew@no.address or 1-800-641-1117.

We too are sorry to see Badger go, but with your continued support, we will
continue to bring you only the best environmental office products.

NEEDED!

Badger Paper Closes - SUPPORT FOR CERTIFIED PCF NEEDED!
FYI
PESHTIGO, Wis. (AP) -- Badger Paper Mills Inc., a
manufacturer of packaging and specialty papers, on Friday 3 June, said it
is shutting down its uncoated freesheet Fourdrinier paper machine and
equipment "indefinitely."
The company said it will cut about 100 jobs as a result, including 70
union workers and 30 salaried employees.

The Chlorine Free Products Association regretfully is announcing to our
list the demise of Badger Papers and the end of production for
Envirographic 100. This mill even though it was not a PCF certified producer
never misrepresented their grades, in writing, as PCF but instead took a
high road and promoted their grades as 'produced in a chlorine free
pulping and bleaching process.' Badger helped in developing strong market
niches for PCF paper and we will miss their presence around the
country.

But I have to say unless we, everyone on this list, every government
agency and corporation setting purchasing specifications, must require
some form of third party auditing from suppliers of TCF-PCF papers or we
will see more mills such as Badger leaving the market. We will see and
hear of more mills offering a cheap knock off EPP {Environmentally
Preferred Product} without spending a dime and eliminating everyone's
influence on improving the paper industry.

The key point is that we must conserve our water and natural resources,
and commit to creating a sustainable life for all. We cannot accomplish
that if we focus too narrowly on one issue. Is recycling more important
than forestry? Are energy usage and carbon gas releases less important?
Can we survive without fresh water?

As you may know, the CFPA appointed a team of independent consultants
and activists to create a third party auditing screen that:

a.. Measures energy and water consumption,
b.. Eliminates harmful toxins like dioxin and furans produced by
chlorine chemistry,
c.. Provides a chain of custody for all fibers, and
d.. Reviews social, environmental, and financial responsibility.

The Advisory Council did an excellent job in creating the Sustainable
Manufacturing & Marketing Initiative (SMMI) based on all of these
important issues. Once audited, a mill can provide you a Certificate of
Authenticity that includes their Sustainability Index {SI rank best of 1350
points}. Now you can judge a paper by its cover.

To help you bring the message to your purchasing and specifications
people we are offering with the help of Go Natural Studio's LLC a lesson
plan http://www.rustletheleaf.com/0105_Lesson.pdf

If you have an interest and would enjoy the poster's custom-designed
artwork, find humor in the Rustle the Leaf cartoon and are willing to
join us to help protect our children, our families and fresh water for
generations to come contact us and we will mail you a printed version.

Broaden your view on paper and sustainability

....it doesn't end in the forest, or the recycling bin.

Ask your suppliers to provide third-party accountability- a Certificate
of Authenticity.

Let's build market awareness and STOP CLOSING any more PCF Mills.
