Hi GreenYes, I would think that seniors need more lighting than younger people with better eyesight, thus, the seniors likely use many more lights on in their apartments. Yes we can suggest that the "seniors" do things that are "environmental", however, it would be more productive to see what we can get the building manager to do on their behalf as a group. Maybe you can suggest to the apartment manager to have a little "class" in the apartment complex assembly space on compact fluorescent lamps. I bet a good portion of those seniors have not even heard of that technology or understand what it is. Not would the class inform them, bring them together as a group and encourage community, it would also reduce their electricity bill - good for seniors on a budget. Maybe the utility company would wish to participate in that effort for PR, etc... The manager can also set up a building process or system to recycle compact fluorescent lamp for them.
