Subject: Comments - ACTION REQUIRED by May 30th

<x-tad-bigger>Dear Non-Profit Network,</x-tad-bigger>
<x-tad-bigger> </x-tad-bigger>
<x-tad-bigger>We are writing to request your urgent comments to protect the legitimacy of green building from an industry-sponsored initiative aimed at diluting green building and co-opting the means by which it is defined.  Industry trade associations led by the logging and chemical industry have created an organization called the Green Building Initiative (GBI), and they are pouring millions of dollars into promoting a green building rating system called Green Globes.  In an effort to boost the GBI's credibility, they have submitted an application to the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) seeking GBI's accreditation as a standards developer, which could provide GBI far reaching marketing and lobbying advantages over LEED and other well-respected and legitimate green building standards.  This would be fine, except that GBI is a highly secretive organization that has not satisfied ANSI's Essential Requirements for openness, consensus, balance and transparency.  We request that you review the attached 2-page memo for further details and fax brief comments to ANSI and GBI on behalf of your organization by the deadline of next Monday, </x-tad-bigger><x-tad-bigger>May 30, 2005</x-tad-bigger><x-tad-bigger>.  Please </x-tad-bigger><x-tad-bigger>blind copy</x-tad-bigger><x-tad-bigger> your comments to Build It Green via fax at (510) 845-9503</x-tad-bigger>

<x-tad-bigger>Thank you for your time and for taking action to help ensure green building's continued credibility in the marketplace.</x-tad-bigger>
<x-tad-bigger> </x-tad-bigger>
<x-tad-bigger> </x-tad-bigger>
<x-tad-bigger>Best regards,</x-tad-bigger>
<x-tad-bigger> </x-tad-bigger>
<x-tad-bigger>Brian</x-tad-bigger>
