Re: [greenyes] Workshops in Sacramento

Kerry,

I agree with the concerns that you and Sharon raise. I encourage you to write the Chair of the CIWMB, Linda Moulton-Patterson, to contact them directly about this. She can be reached at <LMoulton@no.address>.

In the meantime, I know that the CIWMB makes many of its workshops and meetings accessible by the internet to address this problem. You might want to explore that avenue of participation.

CRRA conferences are usually rotated north and south in California as well to address this problem. Last year was in Ontario. This year CRRA is holding their training conference in Sacramento in March and CRRA is helping to organize the National Recycling Congress in San Francisco August 29-September 1. CRRA also uses volunteers to help run its conferences, and volunteers can then attend sessions.

Hello All,

My City does not have any money in the budget for any workshops. If the workshop is in Southern California, I can usually cover the cost. Are there any grants or scholarships for workshops? I love attending the recycling workshops, yet the state of our city budget will not pay for any of these training sessions. Any positive suggestions?

Thanks,

I keep seeing notices of events that sound really interesting & useful,
but are only being offered in Sacramento. Speaking for myself, Long Beach
has had a travel ban in place for years, so there is zero chance that I
can attend a workshop that is more than about 2 hours drive from here. I
know that the Waste Board is under budget pressure, but so are all of us
cities. It would be nice to be able to take advantage of all this
expertise, but most of the time it's just not possible.
