[greenyes] FW: total applications for a Dell recycling grant
In case any of you were interested about whether or not the grant
applicants will be public information, here is Bryant Hilton's response.

If Dell can't tell us who has applied, perhaps Dell will share with us
the total number of applicants at the end of the process.

Hi Cassie -- we will make the list of recipients public, but not the
list of
all applicants. Reason is we would first ask each for permission to
make
their information public before release.

I can tell you that overall, most of the applications thus far have come
from local government organizations and we have had inquiries and or
applications from organizations in about 40 states thus far.
Interestingly,
many of the organizations that have been in contact have existing
programs,
and are interested in grants to increase the reach of those.

The recipients will both receive training from the National Recycling
Coalition to help them prepare for their events, and we will have all of
the
groups in touch so that they can compare best practices.

Other opportunities available to any organization (including applicants
who
do not receive an award) which would like to organize a recycling event
include: sharing our recycling event best practices guide which we
developed
with the National Recycling Coalition and plan to update in early 2004;
and,
we plan to offer training seminars in conjunction with any Dell managed
event in 2004.

Thanks for your interest,
Bryant

Dear Bryant,
Will the final list of grant applicants be public information? Not only
would it be useful to know how many local governments and institutions
are in need of grant help to conduct e-waste recycling days, it might
also be very useful for the communities themselves so that they can
share ideas.
I look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
Cassie Wyss

grant

Here is the information for the application:

"DMA" stands for "designated market area" or "demographic market area".
This
geographic designation is used by A.C. Nielsen, a global marketing
information company, to specify which counties comprise a specific
television market. The term is also used to describe groups of cities
and
counties that share infrastructure, media, and services. Contact your
local
chamber of commerce or county communications office to determine the
estimated population of your DMA.

More information is available at www.dell.com/recyclinggrant or at
recycling_grant@no.address

Thanks!

Subject: [greenyes] Question on application for a Dell recycling grant

A community in Wisconsin is asking for some help in understanding what
the
term "DMA" means in the application for a grant from Dell to recycle
computers.

The application asks for three lines of information on population:

 	Population of event city
 	Population of event county
 	Population of event DMA

Any information would be most welcome.
