Anne,
One of my communities that is also very small also only uses one truck
The truck is split into 2 compartments one for garbage and one for
recycling.
We alternate one week the truck collects garbage and fiber recycling
(paper, cardboard) and the next week we collect garbage and commingled
(bottles and cans)  It works very well in the town, we only have
approximately 1000 households.
