Re: [GreenYes] Plastic Lumber - What is it made of?
Plastic lumber is usually made with recovered plastic film which is usually
made of HDPE, LDPE and LLDPE. Other resins are used but these three are the
most important. Plastic lumber has gone thru several generations of
development and now I think the most common form (TREX) is a composite of
wood
waste and one or all of the above recovered resins.

The Northeast Resource Recovery Association of NH, is planning and has
secured funding to build a plastics recovery and fabrication plant which
will use mixed plastics as its feedstock. I believe they have settled on a
solvent system to first dissolve the mixed plastics together and then inject
the heated mixture into a mold. They have researched the use of
mixed plastic feedstock and could tell you the most about it. I'm not sure
what their product line will be yet.
