[GreenYes] Action Alert: No Incentives for Incinerators

Dear Friends, 

Two decades after public outcry and community organizing stopped 300 garbage
incinerator proposals, U.S. communities face a renewed threat to
environmental and economic justice.  The waste industry is promoting
incinerators as a source of clean and renewable energy in local, state and
federal policies. 

The industry push for incentives has been accompanied by a wave of new
incinerator proposals in communities throughout the U.S.  Far from a
solution to safely meet our energy needs and curb global warming,
incinerators are a proven hazard to community, economic and environmental
health.  Even the most technologically advanced incinerators are major
emitters of greenhouse gases and toxic substances.  Their enormous economic
burden on communities leads to the displacement of more sustainable and just
waste solutions such as recycling and composting, and valuable green jobs. 

Incentives for incinerators must be opposed to prevent a new generation of
toxic, wasteful, expensive and greenhouse gas intensive incinerators in U.S.
communities. 

TAKE ACTION: Join with organizations and communities across the U.S. to
stand against incentives for existing and new incinerators by signing onto
the No Incentives for Incinerators sign-on statement.
