WASHINGTON, DC, July 3, 2002 (ENS) - The U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA) is using outdated science to set standards governing the use of
treated sewage sludge as a fertilizer, warns a new report from the National
Academies' National Research Council. The committee that wrote the report is
calling for additional studies to assess the health risks of sewage sludge.
