RE: [greenyes] Megatons reduced by recycling
Hi, Rod.
We used the EPA's WARM software for the Pentagon Renovation's Construction Waste Management program.  We were able to calculate a 177 percent GHG diversion from a no recycling scenario.  While the software doesn't factor in a lot of conventional building products (it focuses on materials like OCC, plastics, wood waste etc.), there was enough to work with to make some valid estimates.

Subject: [greenyes] Megatons reduced by recycling

Greeting

Imagine one ton of standard mix of recyclable items
coming out of a home fiber, metal, glass etc.

I understand that using recycled vs. virgin material saves approximately 75% of the energy used in virgin production of this mix.

I anyone aware of the actual reduction in megatons of GHG's involved

Thanks
