The following is a link to a map and chart showing those areas in the US
with large concentrations of mercury in the environment.

Products use many times the mercury as compared to what is emitted by coal
burning power plants and legislation at the national, state and local level
is both banning the sales of mercury-containing products as well as
requiring collection programs for existing products.
