To say that there are "NO markets for glass" is, of
course, a bit of a blanket statement. In some areas there may be no
markets, but often this is because of the quality of the material. I have
spoken with buyers in glass manufacturing plants who import glass from other
states, generally bottle-bill states, because they prefer the quality from these
sources. Yes, in a sense, this involves a subsidy, due to the economics of
the bottle bill program, however it does not change the fact that markets do
exist, they just do not exist for all types of material out
there, especially mixed cullet.
