WWF (the World Wildlife Fund) has prepared a report on the status of the
world's eco-systems, using a Living Planet Index and the ecological
footprint approach.
The Living Planet Index is an indicator of the state of the world 's
natural ecosystems. It is calculated as the average of three separate
indices which relate to the abundance of forest, freshwater, and marine
species. The index shows an overall decline of about 37 per cent between
1970 and 2000.
