According to the July 20, 2001 Plastics News, Rock-Tenn and Dupont are
marketing a new package intended to meet the expected demand from large
super market chains, like Wal-Mart, which want to eliminate their butcher
department by purchasing and reselling "case-ready" meat trays.
Their package will consist of a thermoformed polypropylene tray, to
replace the current foam trays which can crack, combined with a mylar
polyester film that can seal in modified atmosphere to extend shelf life.
This tray is competing by another from Cryovac, and another lid from
Honeywell.
