[GRRN] Radiation in steel
- Subject: [GRRN] Radiation in steel
- From: "Maine, Bruce" <bmaine@hdrinc.com>

Wanted to thank members of the list who made suggestions regarding radiation
content in steel. Although there was no specific consensus, the following
language has been drafted into every specification where steel is furnished.
The percentage of recycled content will change, of course, as per EAF or BOF
generated product.
1. Structural steel shall be manufactured by
mill engaging in the recycling of steel scrap.
2. Manufacturer shall provide certification
that process has generated structural steel with 99% recycled content.
3. Manufacture shall provide certification that
radiation dose levels from steel scrap are no greater than 300 millirem per
year as defined by the National Council on Radiation Protection and
Measurements (NCRP), and by federal and state regulatory agencies.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
