Bush to intervene in a dispute with Michigan's governor over garbage. Toronto Mayor Mel Lastman wrote to Bush on Wednesday asking him to protect a five-year contract between the city and U.S. waste-disposal company Republic Services that would see 300,000 tonnes of the Toronto garbage shipped to Michigan landfill sites each year. Michigan Governor John Engler has asked Toronto council to break the contract with Republic because of concerns about hazardous commercial waste. Michigan officials said that the Toronto's waste doesn't meet U.S. environmental standards and asked Canadian authorities last week to launch an environmental review. http://news.findlaw.com/legalnews/s/20010314/n14547979.html <<<<=-=-= Tsonkwadiyonrat (We are ONE Spirit) =-=-=>>>> The preceding message has been distributed courtesty of Native News Online.
