1. Commercial Outreach Contract

Application Due: Current until filled
Hours: 16 hours/week to June 30, 1999
Budget Amount: $25-30/hour

Background: As part of an ongoing effort to promote waste prevention
and recycling in San Francisco's business and public sector, the
commercial recycling team of the San Francisco Recycling Program
conducts a series of general and targeted outreach programs and
campaigns throughout the year .

Included among its efforts in the business sector is a program called
the Recycle More! campaign that targets office building managers and
tenants. San Francisco has over 300 office buildings of greater than
100,000 square feet and approximately 300,000 employees. Although
most of these buildings have recycling programs of some sort, many
could be recycling more material types and/or volumes. The Recycle
More! campaign is designed to increase awareness of and participation
in office building recycling programs to the building's tenants.

The commercial recycling team oversees recycling programs for City
Government facilities. There are approximately 400 facilities and
32,000 employees. In December 1998 a new paper recycling contract was
entered into allowing for expansion of paper recycling programs at
many of the facilities and requiring education for employees and
janitorial staff.

Project title: Commercial Outreach Coordinator

Objectives/Tasks:
Recycle More Campaign: To market, organize and coordinate all aspects
of the Recycle More! Campaign under the direction of the commercial
resource conservation manager, including;
=80 Recruit and sign-up prospective office building to participate in
the campaign.
=80 Work with the building manager and their recycling service provider
to schedule and coordinate the week's activities.
=80 Assist the building manager and service provider in providing
information to the tenants, e.g. conduct a tenant seminar or meet with
tenants individually.
=80 Disseminate promotional materials to the building managers, and
where applicable, assist in its transportation, set-up and breakdown
of displays.
=80 Coordinate with building manager and service providers to track
recycling results.

City Government Outreach Activities
=80 Assist in the preparation of promotional materials.
=80 Oversee recycling program education seminars and program
installation for City Gov't facilities. Schedule seminars and
coordinate activities of City Government outreach assistant(s).

Minimum Qualification:
Three years work experience in recycling
Ability to work well and coordinate with a variety of individuals,
agencies, businesses and service providers.
Excellent Communication Skills
Proficiency with word processing, database and spreadsheet software.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
Knowledge and experience with the San Francisco business community.
