The GrassRoots Recycling Network's new report <<Wasting
and Recycling in the U.S. 2000>> is at last finished, thanks
to heroic efforts by Brenda Platt of the Institute for Local
Self-Reliance and others. It is ready for the printers.

We would like to get a dozen or two selective endorsements
from key organizations, like national environmental and
economic development organizations and businesses, high
profile politicos and other persons, and especially local
governments (to whom the report is particularly targeted).

Please email me suggestions and, if appropriate, we will
send an advance xerox copy of the report to those individuals.
Let me know if you are willing to send a cover note. We
need endorsements by January 15th.

Thanks,
/Bill S.

>From the report's introduction:

"This report summarizes the state of "wasting" in the United
States and the relationship of municipal wasting to industrial
wasting, extraction of virgin resources, and environmental
and public health impacts. . This report aims to provide
recycling professionals, policymakers, and other planners
with the information they need to support expanded resource
conservation and recycling activities and policies and to
build a new paradigm based on eliminating waste rather than
managing waste. The report concludes with An Agenda for
Action, which suggests actions government, industry, and
citizens can take to implement the long-term goal of zero
waste."
