FYI In both Germany and the Netherlands, refillables -- both glass and PET --are
returned for hefty deposits (above 50 cents per 1.5 liter bottle). Recyclable
glass is typically collected in igloos placed within about a half mile of all
but the most rural households. Aluminum is rare in both places, but recycled at
about 90 percent in Germany through Duales. The message: make it lucrative and
convenient to participate in desired behavior.
