The NTP Center for the Evaluation of Risks to Human Reproduction will look at
possible reproductive risks to plastics workers and consumers from seven

This is worth checking out. Notice how the question is framed (according to
the press release) - they will ask whether these phthalates might be
contributing to infertility and major birth defects. It will be interesting
to see how they deal with this. No one would argue that these are not
"adverse" outcomes. But there is a substantial difference between
identifying alterations in testicular or ovarian development and concluding
that those alterations are linked to infertility or "major" birth defects.
If this is not done right, there will be a real temptation to exonerate
chemicals which alter developmental endpoints if those alterations are not
then further linked to human infertility and "major" birth defects by this
panel (headed by Mike Shelby of NTP).
