If a message is to be widely distributed to teenagers on the environment for
Earth Day, it should include waste prevention as well as recycling.
Teenagers should ask themselves if they are generating too much waste and
should take some simple steps to reduce this such as:

*using paper on both sides

*using reusable plates, mugs etc.. instead of disposable ones

*selecting products with no packaging or minimal packaging

*returning hangars to the dry cleaners

*getting off junk mail lists

*buying products in concentrated form (i.e. detergents)

The message is---WASTE NOT CREATED IN THE FIRST PLACE DOES NOT HAVE TO BE
RECYCLED OR DISPOSED OF!
