What is GreenYes?

GREENYES is an open (unmoderated) discussion forum focusing on policies and strategies needed to advance sustainable resource policies. We seek to advance serious discussion from a broad range of viewpoints.

The GREENYES mailing list is a project of the GrassRoots Recycling Network.

Why can't I post to the list?

The number one reason members cannot post: You probably are sending from a different email address than the one you subscribed with. This can happen a number of ways:

  1. You subscribed with your home address, but you are trying to send with your work address or vice versa.
    1. In your email application, change the 'from' email address in your default email account to match the one you subscribed with.
    2. Unsubscribe your old address and resubscribe the prefered address that you actually send to.
  2. Your government, university or business mail server has that quirky habit of adding a third level domain (myname@ecology.uga.edu) to the 'From' line of every outgoing email, even though you send from a second level domain (myname@uga.edu)
    1. Contact your local email administrator and have them walk you through the best method of subscribing -- probably with your third level domain address.
  3. You are not subscribed at all. Please subscribe with the easy link above.
  4. All other question please go here.

  2. Address posts to the list. (Not the list owner.)
  3. Before sending posts to GreenYes, we ask that you first please read the greenyes netiquette page so you understand our groundrules. Digest readers in particular, please read the section on subject headings

How else may I subscribe?

Go to GreenYes on Google Groups
Click 'Join' on the right-hand side. Follow the directions.
If you don't see a join button, view this video showing you how to join.

How do I unsubscribe?

Go to GreenYes on Google Groups
Click 'Sign in' on the left hand side if you're not already signed in. Go to your list of google groups. Select GreenYes. Follow the directions for unsubscribing.

Why didn't my application for subscription go through?

You must write a brief sentence or two explaining who you are and why you want to join on the google groups subscription page. If you leave it blank or write something vague or incomprehensible, your application will be deleted without comment. We get a number of automated attempts to join the list just so they can send automated spam. You do not have to be an environmental professional to join GreenYes. In order to protect our list members from spam, we just want to be sure you're not a spam robot.

Where is the latest archive?

The latest archive for GreenYes is here, and you can search it too.
Older archives are found here.

what's this name@no.address thing in the old archives?

Hey, who doesn't hate spam? As of 2003, all archives are doctored so that email addresses are no longer functional. This allows us to host an archive, yet keep our subscribers' email addresses out of the reach of email harvesters. Depending on the time available, previous years may also be harvester-proofed.

What if I have a problem or a question?

List members should generally take charge of their own subscription and unsubscription. Examples of when subscription changes that the list owner should handle include: a. email addresses that are no longer valid or b. email addresses which have trouble sending and receiving to the list or via Google Groups. Please - this is just a tiny part of what I do for GRRN - do not email about subscription unless you have major problems because, honestly, it may take me a while to reply.

If you wish to temporarily unsubscribe, please do not email me. Bookmark the the membership URL and place it in your calendar to change back to 'list' or 'digest' when you get back from vacation.

If you have never used the google groups interface with your subscribed email address, you'll need to create a password for that email address. You do not have to take advantage of any of the other google apps to get a password, but once you have one, you will be able to control your mailing preferences yourself - along with any other google groups to which you may belong. To put your address on 'vacation', just set it not to receive email. That way you can still browse the list while you're away - even post from the google-groups web interface, if you like, without your mailbox overflowing.

If you have problems with list members which you cannot address via civil discussion off-list, and it pertains to the list, please forward as an attachment the offensive email with a discription of the problem.

Is there a fee?

No, there is no fee, but you may make a donation to GRRN to help defray the costs of web administration. Note: if you do make a donation because you like our list, please let us know that is your reason for the donation!
