Title: [GreenYes] NEWS: Organic farming could feed Africa
Hi folks,
This is slightly off-topic, but it's big news: a major UN study says
that organic farming has the potential to feed Africa, the most
food-insecure continent in the world.

Of course, what is true in Africa is true elsewhere;it would represent a
major shift away from corporate agriculture: pesticide- and
capital-intensive, food transported long distances, seeds bred or
genetically modified for durable produce rather than nutrition and
flavor, etc.
The relation to waste work is this: organic content of the soils. Soil
quality is worsening in most of Africa, as it is in much of the planet.
One key to increased yields is to improve the organic content of the
soil, which requires compost. Incinerating or landfilling organics
obviously undermines that.
best,
Neil
