Envisions Biodiesel Project
South Florida could become home
to the largest biodiesel plant in the southeastern United
States. Two California companies have unveiled plans for a $96
million project to produce up to 60 million gallons a year of biodiesel, a
cleaner-burning fuel made from the oils of plants such as jatropha and palm and
even from the used cooking oil of restaurants. The "green" fuel likely would be
mixed with petroleum-based diesel, reducing the area's dependence on petroleum
and slashing the heat-trapping emissions that come from burning fossil fuels.
