  The Atlantic Chapter of the Sierra Club (New York State) is
advertising for a Conservation Program Manager for the Albany
office.  The short description is to say this is the Sierra Club's
lobbyist in Albany, but it involves much more, working with local
activists all over the state.  The announcement is below, with

JOB OPENING

CHAPTER CONSERVATION PROGRAM MANAGER
ALBANY OFFICE

The Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter has an opening for a Conservation
Program Manager in its Albany New York office. The Sierra Club is a
700,000 member grassroots environmental organization. The Atlantic
Chapter covers New York State.

Duties include:
The Chapter Conservation Program Director works in the Albany office
to coordinate lobbying and educational efforts of the Sierra Club in
New York State.
Works with volunteer leaders to develop and mobilize a network of
grassroots lobbyists
Provides support to the Chapter Legislative Committee.
Lobbies public officials on legislation that the Club supports.
Maintains a visible presence in Albany to the press and public.
Works with volunteer activists on specific environmental campaigns.
Travels to meet with volunteer leaders in their home districts.
Attends Executive Committee meetings at least two times per year.

The position also involves lobbying, grassroots organizing and
overseeing the work of Assistant and interns.

Knowledge and Skills:

The ideal candidate will have the following skills, education and experience:

Must hold a four-year degree in Political Science, Public Policy,
Environmental Studies, or related field.
Must possess good organizational skills as well as professional
demeanor in public speaking situations.
Experience working and lobbying on environmental issues with
demonstrated ability to work with other advocacy groups is required.
Knowledge of New York State politics and experience with volunteer
organizations helpful
