One way to reduce waste through prevention is to innovate the way we produce things that we use on a daily basis. Eg, why can't a broom double up as a duster? I can create handmade jewelery out of commercial waste like copper wire and the plastic stripped out from electrical wire. I can create boxes for my handmade jewelery that can double up as a file and so will not be discarded. Imagine plastic bags that can be used as an apron for kids to use during art lessons. Where can I go to explore and expand on these ideas? <-----Original Message-----> >From: Gary Liss [gary@no.address] >Sent: 2/16/2007 1:52:51 AM >To: >crra_members@no.address;GreenYes@no.address;zwia@no.address ;ZeroWasteCommunities@no.address;zerowastecommunities@no.address .org;sustainablebusiness@no.address;ZERI-US@no.address >Subject: Re: [GreenYes] EU adopts hierarchy, bans & targets for waste >prevention & recycling > >Apologies for Cross-Postings > > >From: Rob Howe <rob.howe@no.address> >Subject: waste vote in Europe >Date: Thu, 15 Feb 2007 08:31:11 -0500 > >....This article is pertinent to waste-reduction laws that may be put in effect >in Europe. > >http://www.ens-newswire.com/ens/feb2007/2007-02-13-01.asp > >Regards, >Rob > >Rob Howe >President >Recyclaholics > >rob.howe@no.address | Ph: 978-255-2620 | Mob: 978-204-2149 > >Excerpts from this article: > >....To prevent and reduce waste production, the hierarchy lays down an order of >preference for waste operations - first prevention, then re-use, recycling, >other recovery operations and, as a last resort, safe and environmentally sound >disposal... > >....a majority of MEPs rejected the idea that incineration should be regarded as >recovery... > >....By 2015, landfill will be banned for at least paper, glass, textiles, >plastic and metal.
