EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR JOB ANNOUNCEMENT May 2005

The GrassRoots Recycling Network (GRRN) is a North American
network of recycling professionals and waste reduction
activists that promotes Zero Waste as a critical element of a
sustainable economy. GRRN acts as an advocacy organization
and technical clearinghouse for sustainable consumption and
production policies, and responsible materials management.
Founded in 1995, GRRN has led many successful campaigns and
is unique in its ability to frame the Zero Waste vision in a
comprehensive way that is substantiated by practical
experience and solid research. GRRN seeks to change the way
resources flow through our society and promotes a bold vision
of the coming industrial revolution that reduces waste,
conserves energy and protects our environment and health.

Responsibilities

The Executive Director will lead GRRN in vision and program
planning, with responsibility for fundraising, financial
management and organizational development, jointly with our
active Board of Directors. The Executive Director will guide
the launch of the new "Zero Waste Communities" program, which
provides model policies, training and technical support to
grassroots activists and local government; and will be
responsible for communications with a broad range of
audiences from the worlds of environmental justice,
environmental health, corporate accountability, student
organizing, planning, local government, resource conservation
and recycling.

Qualifications

o Fundraising : Demonstrated success in foundation, government
and individual donor solicitation. Ability to coordinate a
Board team for fundraising.

o Organizational Leadership: Demonstrated leadership and
planning skills. Experience developing an effective Board of
Directors, planning programs, and supervising staff and
consultants.

o Network Coordination: Experiencewith coordinating diverse,
national or international networks. Ability to facilitate
joint projects among organizations and individuals who
support GRRN and the Zero Waste Communities program.

o Program Development: Promote Zero Waste vision and guide
program development. Ability to envision and communicate the
whole while supporting the parts.

o Communication : Strong oral and writing skills, and ability
to engage diverse stakeholders.

o Finance & Administration: Create budgets. Understand and be
able to communicate financial statements. Administer
expenditures and maintain office records.

o Non-profit leadership experience: At least 3 years in senior
management position. Entrepreneurial, creative attitude and
ability to facilitate pro-active responses to opportunities
and challenges. Able to create a productive working
environment with staff and consultants.

o Multi-tasking and ability to prioritize and follow through on
key duties. Ability to travel several times per year.

The position is full-time, with a competitive salary
depending on experience, plus generous benefits policies.
Preferably in the San Francisco Bay Area, but other locations
will be considered if the best candidate is unable to
relocate. GrassRoots Recycling Network proactively seeks
