Brenda,
How did we get so lucky to have two Wal-Marts in almost the same place.
Calvert County, MD is considering allowing a Wall to Wall Mart to expand in
Prince Frederick, and some 18 miles north in Dunkirk, MD. Both models are
to be the Super Wall to Wall Marts! That's a lot of "stuff" for our
landfill...

Dear Megan,
ILSR's Stacy Mitchell is an expert on fighting Wal-marts and other
megastores. Her book, The Home Town Advantage: How to Defend Your Main
Street Against Chain Stores and Why It Matters, has been a big hit and
she is a popular speaker around the country. You can contact her at:

Good luck,

I'm looking for speakers or helpful directions to find local experts
(university?) on the 'real cost of discounts' based on the Wal-mart
expose' piece. http://www.fastcompany.com/magazine/77/walmart.html
Topics may include: the real cost of growing/producing food crops; the
real costs to manufacture or employ in America; what consumers are
getting for paying the higher price; and similar off-shoot topics. Any
links, references, or referrals would be greatly appreciated.
Will university staff (agriculture, economics, food science) have the
knowledge to assist? USDA staff?
