We've been talking about educating the designers to be more environmentally
conscious for a decade now. And now we can start to spread the word in an
organized way. I understand the entry fee to be quite reasonable.
DESIGN:GREEN Launches
Workshops for Product Designers
Scheduled For Spring 2004
New York, NY? This is to announce the official launch of Design:Green, a
groundbreaking program aimed at jumpstarting green design education for
U.S. product designers and ensuring competitiveness for U.S. manufacturers
in the global marketplace.
Design:Green is being spearheaded by the Design Foundation of Industrial
Designers Society of America, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,
J.Ottman Consulting, and leading design schools. It has been endorsed by
the Industrial Designer Society of America, the largest professional
association of product designers, and the o2-Global network of green
designers.
The hallmark of Design:Green will be three highly interactive one-day
workshops, to be conducted in New York, Chicago and Minneapolis during
Spring 2004. They are open to product design practitioners, educators,
students, and other interested professionals. Taught by leading experts in
eco-design, the workshops will bring attendees up to speed on key
environmental issues effecting product design. They will equip designers
with practical skills and easy-to-use tools for incorporating eco-design
into their work and business.
Networking events, a special web site which will house the workshop
materials, and other activities will help extend reach to the broader
audience of product designers.
The Design:Green workshops are scheduled as follows:

Pratt Institute Manhattan
144 West 14 Street
8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Minneapolis

Chicago
June 17, 2004

In Minneapolis and Chicago, Design:Green will be co-promoted with the
EnvironDesign 8 and NEOCON events, respectively.
Sponsorships are currently being sought to help underwrite supplemental
pre-and post-workshop networking events and a green product slide show.
