Whitman Resigns as Chief of EPA

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Christine Todd Whitman (news - web sites) is
resigning from her job as administrator of the Environmental Protection
Agency (news - web sites) and will return to her home in New Jersey, the
agency announced on Wednesday. 

"As rewarding as the past two and a half years have been for me
professionally, it is time to return to my home and husband in New
Jersey," Whitman said in a letter to President Bush (news - web sites).
"I leave knowing that we have made a positive difference and that we
have set the agency on a course that will result in continued
environmental improvement." 

A copy of the letter was released by the EPA. Whitman's resignation is
effective on June 27.
