Although I'm not completely sure, I believe that the difference between
aluminum foil and the heavier duty pie plates is in the "capture rate" and
probably the degree of contamination. Since foil is thinner, I assume that
the material may be lost in the fumes when it is introduced to the heat. And
foil can be quite dirty after storeage of certain types of foods. There's
probably more to this answer, so maybe another more expert person could chime
in.
We at Infinity accept all clean foil and plates, which we keep separate and
make a silver bale that is sold for about 10cents/# a few times a year.(we're
small).
