Greenpeace China has produced, together with the
Institute for Local Self Reliance, a report recommending that Hong
Kong radically change the focus of its system for handling discarded
materials. The report "Zero Waste: Replacing Waste Management with
Discards Management in Hong Kong" provides a blueprint for zero waste in Hong
Kong. Critical component include programs and policies designed
to:
- reduce generation of discards
- increase product reuse and
repair
- create source separation systems for
domestic, commercial and industrial discards and construction and demolition
debris
- establish an efficient collection system
for separated materials
- support processing and marketing creation
for recyclables
- create composting systems for organic
materials
