RE: [GreenYes] egg cartons
I understand that the fiber in molded paper egg cartons is so poor that when recycled, most of it passes through the screens and washes out with the water.  As such, few paper recyclers will say they want them.  Here in our local communities we have a substantial reuse system through the food coops that has been in place for many years.  But that's OK, since reuse is better than recycling!

Subject: [GreenYes] egg cartons

Someone told me yesterday that paperboard egg cartons can't be recycled because
the paper in them has been recycled so much that it is worn out.
also they said they can't be reused because of the "health department".

Is this an urban legend or the truth?

Is anyone out there recycling or reusing paperboard egg cartons?

thanks much,
