Earth Day 2002 Update: Protect Our Home
April 3, 2002

Dear Friends,
As the calendar page turns to April, Earth Day events are pouring into our office from the U.S. and around the world.  It's going to be a great Earth Day!  Millions of people will take action in their local communities, drawing attention to the critical environmental challenges we face. See http://www.earthday.net/goals for lots of ways you can get involved and make a positive difference for our planet, on Earth Day and every day.

NEWS FLASH:  The Ecological Footprint Calculator is here!   What is the size of your "footprint"?  And how can you shrink your "shoe size"?   http://www.earthday.net/footprint.stm

WORLDWIDE EARTH DAY HIGHLIGHTS
Here are examples of how global groups are linking their event plans to Earth Day Network's campaigns and programs:

In Japan, citizens will present a petition to government representatives calling on their head of government to attend the critical World Summit to be held in South Africa later this year.  View other examples of how groups around the world are tying into the Earth Day Network's World Summit campaign, at http://www.earthday.net/goals/worldsummitexamples.stm

In Cameroon, Earth Day Cameroon will lead children in clean-ups and tree plantings as part of a week-long celebration of the environment. See other examples of global tree plantings for Earth Day at http://www.earthday.net/goals/treeplanting2002.stm

In China, Global Village Beijing will hold community dialogues across the country and host a large-scale public activity in Beijing, all aimed at increasing public awareness of the need for sustainability.  View other examples of Earth Day Dialogues at http://www.earthday.net/goals/communityexamples.stm
