TITLE: Many Nappy Returns
AUTHOR: Edwards, Rob
SOURCE: The Ecologist, April 2001, Vol 31, No. 3, P 40
ABSTRACT: New life cycle studies which include all stages of manufacture,
use and disposal report that disposable diapers use 3.5 times more energy,
2.3 times more waste water, and 8.3 times more irreplacable raw materials
than reusable diapers. They also generate 60 times the solid waste as
reusables. Previous studies funded by "Pamper" manufacturer Proctor and
Gamble and undertaken by A.D. Little only considered the use stage of life,
and not manufacture and disposal.
