Pete,
Part of the Forum recommendations were to have an independent monitor and
good reporting of the data. I believe SLOC is still negotiating with SWANA
to be the independent monitor. I also understand that SLOC intends to
report out daily the waste and diversion tonnages.
Regarding Lansing, I got the following response from Scott Vitters at Coca
Cola. As in any major undertaking like this, there will be variations
around the country on how well the recycling is implemented. Coca Cola has
indicated that they were surprised at how well the "Green Teams" worked in
general, and will probably refine the implementation of this concept in the
future for other events.

Gary,
We have worked to organize Green Teams in the approximately 120 communities
hosting city celebrations for the Torch Relay across the country (formal
events where a community comes together around the arrival of the torch).
Last night there was a celebration in Seattle and we were really pleased to
have the Washington State Recycling Association serving as our Green Team.
Tonight the celebration is in Spokane with the Green Team consisting of
volunteers from the Spokane Regional Solid Waste System and Washington
State Recycling Association. As for Lansing, there unfortunately wasn't a
city celebration.
