Re: [GreenYes] Bryant Gumbel
Unfortunately, we do periodically see more affluent people discard the tree with everything left on it during garbage collection after christmas. This usually happens when they are tired of the same old decorations after using them many years. (Does this happen elsewhere or is this just a local phenomenon?) Since we take the trees to the compost facility, we tell our citizens to remove all ornaments AND the tree stands. The stands make up the most aggravating and recurring item left on trees put out for collection. Whether Gumbel's remark was joking or not, it doesn't help the collection cause, either.

Hi GRRN'ers: It's nice to note that Gumbel's show is among the lowest rated
news shows currently on the air. As a matter of fact the CBS Morning Show
was in danger of being cancelled earlier this year. Still, I wonder if he
was perhaps joking about throwing the lights out with the tree. Most
people--we trust, hope and pray--have better sense than to throw out a tree
full of perfectly good Christmas lights. If they don't, a retraction by CBS
isn't going to help them.

Happy holidays all!
