[GreenYes] latest data from WTC
Today's tonnage figures are in excess of 59,000 tons and 4464 truckloads
(Mayor Giuliani news conference today). It is all piled up at Fresh
Kills. Still no word on recycling of the building metal.
An article in this week's Waste News indicates that the twin towers alone
took more than 200,000 tons of steel, 425,000 cubic yards of concrete to
build and include 600,000 square feet of glass (110 floors each). WTC #7
was as large or larger footprint and 47 floors. A much smaller building -
WTC #5 collapsed, and #6 is a shell. Probably others will be torn down.
