Great issue, RECYCLABILITY.......I only wish I had time to respond to this
beyond a few words. The whole issue of advertising the RECYCLABILITY of a
product or package is a gross missrepresentation by the consumer product
company or the trade association(s) representing the consumer product
company(ies)involved when there are no viable markets. The key words in
your comment of 1/27 is VIABLE MARKETS. RECYCLABILITY is a nothingburger
without VIABLE MARKETS.

My advice to you is stage a PRESS EVENT with a few barrels of polystyrene
and get the message to the public that there are no VIABLE MARKETS for
stuff. The worst thing that can happen is that someone will come along and
say YOUR'RE WRONG AND BUY THE STUFF FROM YOU.

Thanks for bring it up.

there are indeed markets for post industrial material, viable markets for
post consumer seem conspicuously absent. The only processor accepting post
consumer material seems to be the NPRC facility in Corona, CA who are
charging $300 a ton plus freight to take it. A fully loaded truck carrying
some 40,000# of material would set us back well over $7,000. As a small
non-profit recycler, we cannot afford to absorb this kind of cost. At this
price, can it really be said to be recyclable? We are faced with having to
dump this material, which an unsuspecting public have gone to the trouble of
setting in their curbside bins believing that it will be recycled.
