FW: [GRRN] looking for cities that have dropped recyclables

The 6 cities in San Luis Obispo County, CA have "unofficially" dropped
polystyrene. No more separate collection containers in fast food places,
etc. and while it is still accepted in curbside containers it is no longer
advertised as acceptable. All of this has happened within the last year.
On December 7, 1998 we received another letter from the National Polystyrene
Recycling Company, they would like our PS and all we have to do is truck it
200 miles to them and then pay them $300 per ton.

As part of our Shop Earth Smart campaign we have 4 messages, one message is
to look for products which have packaging which can be easily recycled, such
as aluminum, glass or steel.

Subject: [GRRN] looking for cities that have dropped recyclables

Hello,
Can anyone on the list provide me with quick examples of city or community
recycling programs that have stopped collecting individual materials for
recycling because of economic or market reasons? (e.g. ABC City stopped
collecting plastic bottles curbside in 1997 because they could no longer
find markets or afford the collection costs for plastics.) I just need the
basic info for use as examples, preferably things that were dropped from
programs within the last 5 years.

Thanks ahead of time for your help.
