Dear colleagues, The following message is about a new book just
published on the draft International Standard on Environmental
Management Systems ISO14000; and further down about a call for input
into a further book on implementing the proposed standard - which is
closely related ro BS7750 and the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme.
ISO 14000 A Guide to the New Environmental Management Standards
By Tom Tibor with Ira Feldman

The ISO 14000 series of environmental management standards now under
development by the International Organization for Standardization
(ISO) are certain to affect every aspect of a company's environmental
operations. ISO 14000 has captured the attention of business and
governments worldwide and, following in the footsteps of the ISO 9000
quality management standards, ISO 14000 registration may become a
global passport to doing business for thousands of companies.

ISO 14000 A Guide to the New Environmental Management Standards is a
comprehensive, preview of the ISO 14000 series for companies that
want to know what ISO 14000 is, how it will affect them, and what
they can do about it. The book explores the ISO 14000 series in
detail. It traces the development of the standards and describes each
standard under development including environmental management
systems, environmental auditing, environmental labeling,
environmental performance evaluation, and life cycle assessment. It
also discusses some of the international and domestic implications of
the standards, the probable registration process and other relevant
environmental management standards and regulations, including the
European Union's Eco-Management and Audit Regulation.

Tom Tibor is a business, technical and management writer and has
written for government, associations and private industry. He has
developed and edited several regulatory and standards publications,
including The ISO 9000 Handbook (also published by IRWIN PROFESSIONAL
PUBLISHING), The ISO 9000 Registered Company Directory, European
Community Medical Device Directives, and European Community Product
Liability and Product Safety Directives. Mr. Tibor is a member of the
U.S.Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to ISO Technical Committee 207 on
environmental management, and reports on ISO 14000 developments for
business and environmental publications.

environmental consulting affiliate of the Howrey & Simon law firm.
Until recently, Mr. Feldman served as Special Counsel in the Office
of Compliance at EPA headquarters in Washington, D.C., where he
developed the Environmental Leadership Program and led the revision
of EPA's auditing policy. Mr. Feldman is active in the national and
international voluntary standards setting arena through his
participation in the ASTM and ISO processes. The U.S.TAG has
designated Mr. Feldman as co-chair of its Legal Issues Forum. He is a
member of the board of directors of the Institute for Environmental
Auditing and of the editorial board of Total Environmental Quality

Following is some information about a second project on ISO 14000, a
contributor-written volume for which Tom is soliciting contributors.

"The book is entitled Implementing ISO 14000. Implementing ISO 14000
will be a comprehensive, practical reference to assist environmental
managers in developing and implementing effective environmental
management systems (EMS) that comply with the requirements of
standards such as the ISO 14000 series now being developed by the
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as well as
similar initiatives, such as the European Union's Eco-Management and
Audit Scheme regulation.

"Implementing ISO 14000 will be primarily contributor-written. I am
looking for additional contributors to discuss various aspects of
environmental management. I am ESPECIALLY INTERESTED in case studies
from companies that are either implementing an environmental
management system now or are planning to do so in the future.
