[GreenYes] NYC Recycling Roundtable 2

The Center for Economic and Environmental Partnership, Inc. and

The Citywide Recycling Advisory Board cordially invite you to participate in

MAKING RECYCLING WORK II

A Roundtable on the Future of Recycling in New York City

March 26th and 27th - 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

U.S. EPA - Region 2 - 290 Broadway, 30th Floor

Important developments - and ongoing challenges - inspired the planning of
Recycling Roundtable II:

. Adoption in 2006 of New York City's 20-year Comprehensive Solid Waste
Management Plan, recognizing the increasing cost of waste export and
disposal and setting out new goals and initiatives for recycling and waste
prevention - including creation of a new Office of Recycling Outreach and
Education.

. Completion of the massive, comprehensive Waste Characterization Study,
a new 'census of waste' as an essential planning tool.

. Launching of the Mayor's Office of Long-Term Planning and
Sustainability, and plaNYC/2030, which targets reducing New York's
greenhouse gas emissions.

The first Recycling Roundtable in November 2002 fostered thoughtful
deliberation about that year's special challenges. Making Recycling Work II
will use the same roundtable discussion format to explore critical issues
for today and beyond. Experts from recycling-related industries,
municipalities and environmental organizations will join with local
recycling practitioners, civic leaders, and advocates to explore:

. Optimizing residential diversion and capture rates;

. Improving recycling in the commercial sector;

. Diverting organics from landfills into beneficial reuse systems;

. Recycling in public spaces and mass transit; and,

. Expanding the recycling of construction and demolition (C&D) materials.

The Goal: To determine the action steps needed to take New York
City's residential and commercial recycling programs to the next level.

The Roundtable, including lunch and refreshments, is free. Registration is
required; seating is limited.
