'Zero waste' plan gets under way

MOVES to eliminate all unnecessary waste from a Welsh county have begun with £1.5m funding.

Pembrokeshire's "zero waste" Strategic Recycling Scheme is bringing together eight organisations to ensure rubbish can be re-used.

Funding has come from the European Objective One and the Welsh Assembly Government. Projects include kerbside recycling, home composting, with 30,000 homes receiving a free compost bin and dedicated recycling project officers in Fishguard and Milford Haven. A Dial- a-Shredder service and compost hotline and website are being introduced, and community groups paid to look after recycling sites
