Free Markets May Be the Ticket to a Clean Energy Revolution
Libertarian think tanks teamed up with big-name enviros to oppose the
huge Bush energy bill that stalled out in Congress in November. But
wait -- one group's from Venus, the other's from Mars ... what gives?
The answer, says journalist Vijay Vaitheeswaran, is that both camps
want clean, renewable energy sources to compete on a level market
playing field rather than go up against fossil-fuel industries
bloated on massive government subsidies. Vaitheeswaran, who writes
for The Economist, is an enthusiast about clean-energy technologies
and the power of market-based solutions to environmental problems.
He makes a good case, says Michelle Nijhuis in her review of his new
book "Power to the People" -- only on the Grist Magazine website.
