[greenyes] Re: [jtrnet] Info Request: Recycling and Jobs
I can recommend 2 resources:

The U.S. Recycling Economic Information (REI) Study is an unprecedented
national study that demonstrates the importance of recycling and reuse
to the U.S. economy. The study was commissioned by EPA and numerous
states through a cooperative agreement with the National Recycling
Coalition. Visit for more information.

Also, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (part of the U.S. Dept. of Labor)
might be a good place to call. I'm not sure if they can get as specific
as you like, but calling 202 691-6555 will get you the Current
Employment Statistics Survey office. They can give you the number of
jobs per industry (based on an industry-specific survey of non-farm
payroll employment). I don't believe they'll have info on skilled vs.
non-skilled, but they do track other demographics, such as age, race,
gender, and education. For that info, call 202 691-6378. Web site: (their data is on the Web, but it's best to call to speak
with an economist). They do track occupational data, but that cuts
across industries, e.g., a "waste specialist" might work at a MRF or a
consulting firm.
