hi Christine:
I'll put you on the mailing list for a report I'm preparing for the State of
Washington. That report won't contain quite the same info that you're looking
for but it will show waste disposal rates by county and will contain waste
composition data from several rural counties in this state. The report should
be done in a week or so, at which time I'll be sending out pdf copies (I could
also send it as a Word document if you prefer).
Personally I'm not sure about the use of per-capita rates, those figures seem
erratic on the local level (county level or smaller), but I also don't know
of any other indicators that could be used. This is definitely an area where
more research is needed, for commercial and industrial waste generation as well
as residential. When I can get my hands on collection or disposal tonnages
for the study area, I prefer to start there and then apply waste composition
data, but of course you can't always get those figures for the specific area.
I would love to find out what else you come up with. Maybe you could post
sources for the best of that stuff to GreenYes?
